National Technical Skills Competition
Eight truck technicians and eight apprentices traveled to Isuzu Australia Limited’s (IAL’s) head office in Melbourne in July to compete in the National Technical Skills Competition.
The level of difficulty was ramped up for this year’s competition, with the contestants undertaking a one-hour written exam and a one-hour on-vehicle exercise.
Veteran technician Brad Hickey from Peel Valley Isuzu in Tamworth and newcomer Louis Holt from Bendigo Isuzu took out the top honours. The pair are set to pit their skills against technicians from more than 40 countries around the world at the prestigous Isuzu World Technical Competition, the I-1Grand Prix (I1GP), on November 4.
IAL National Service Manager Brett Stewart said programs such as the National Technical Skills Competition helped, if only in a little way, address the skills shortage now being experienced in Australia.
