With a long history of harnessing technology for the best possible outcomes, Isuzu Trucks is positioned to play a vital role in a safer future for the Australian road transport industry.
As intelligent transport systems gather momentum around the world, Isuzu Telematics provides a comprehensive platform for fleet managers and transport operators looking for more control over the safety of their fleet and their drivers.
Telematics – which integrates real-time data with sophisticated vehicle monitoring – is already a vital part of the toolkit for many fleet managers across Australia. Isuzu Australia Limited Director & Chief Operating Officer, Phil Taylor, believes telematics is currently under-utilised as a safety tool.
“Our research shows telematics is still being used primarily for vehicle tracking, and as market leaders we need to be getting the message out there that this technology has enormous capacity to positively impact road safety in Australia,” Mr Taylor said.
“It comes down to taking your responsibilities as a manufacturer seriously, and for Isuzu Trucks that means empowering our customers with the technology to keep their people as safe as possible on the road.”
Isuzu offers two levels of telematics capability so that businesses can choose the product that best meets their needs and requirements.
Both Isuzu Connect (which can be retrofitted to older models) and Isuzu Connect Plus offer real-time reporting and a wealth of data on vehicle and driver performance.
Isuzu Telematics provides 24-7 reporting on driver speed, over-revving, heavy braking and adherence to geo-fenced areas, providing fleet managers with the on-road visibility demanded to develop targeted and effective driver safety training and performance incentive programs.
Isuzu Connect Plus also provides additional safety offerings with a panic button, collision alert and door-open monitor.
“With the data Isuzu Telematics can provide, operators and managers will be given eyes on the road when they need it the most,” Mr Taylor said.
“Combine that data with consistent monitoring and training, and telematics will enable companies to hit the reset button on driver performance and establish a new benchmark for safety heading into the future.”
Isuzu Connect also provides vehicle service reminders and mechanical checks to ensure operators are keeping trucks in optimum condition for safe performance.
Through Isuzu Connect Plus, operators are able to make use of more specific information related to truck performance, such as in-depth engine performance monitoring and vehicle diagnostics – alerting customers to any potential mechanical issues well before they pose any risk to driver or vehicle safety.
“In the next decade we are going to see that telematics will be the single most important technological development in our vehicles and on our roads,” Mr Taylor said.
“The freight task is anticipated to triple by 2050*, so it stands to reason that as an industry we need widespread adoption of intelligent systems like telematics in place to meet that increase in demand safely and efficiently.”
Re-cap: What is Isuzu Telematics?
Isuzu Telematics is an integrated intelligent trucking solution. A black box installed behind the truck’s dash panel works with a server and wireless devices to provide a range of operational and driver safety management efficiencies, such as live positioning, trip playback, geo-fencing and fleet and engine data information tools.
The system is developed in Australia and made specifically to suit Isuzu trucks operating in Australian conditions. It is connected to the Telstra mobile network and uses fully licensed Google Maps for the broadest national footprint in Australia, both in metro and rural areas.
Isuzu Connect
The Isuzu Telematics Connect product (which can be retrofitted to older models) comprises vehicle positioning and fleet management capability. Features include live locating capability, mechanical checks, theft alert, and service reminders. As well, this package includes some aspects of analysing how the vehicle is driven: speeding, harsh acceleration and adherence to geo-fenced boundaries.
Isuzu Connect Plus
Isuzu Connect Plus ups the ante on the Connect offering by adding engine management data readings to the mix, from clutch activation and fuel consumption to how much time the engine is idling. There are also driver-security features, such as a panic button, collision alert and door-open monitor.
On the Connect Plus package, Isuzu Telematics integrates with Isuzu's DAVE (Digital Audio Visual Equipment) touchscreen.
Isuzu Telematics enhancements
Isuzu Trucks has introduced two clever new features to its telematics offering – driver ID and two-way messaging which will be rolled in the second half of 2016.
